Set design for play ‘Terneuzen rond 1584’

One of Jan van Es's first projects: the set design for a stage production on the occasion of the four-hundredth anniversary of the city of Terneuzen in 1984. The play "Terneuzen around 1584", written by M. Schoenmaker, was performed as a conclusion to a year-long festivities.

The play takes place around the time when Terneuzen was founded. The main scenes take place around a military fortress, and in a local inn. Jan van Es designed distorted decors that appear realistic, but at the same time play with perspective.
